Short Note on CASE Tools
CASE
Tools :-
CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering ) tools are the
programs that provide support in one or mores pages of system development
process.
CASE tools are available for most of the
analysis and designing work and they allow the system analysis and designers to
concentrate on the creative aspects of the design.
Objective
:-
The objective of CASE tools is to help system analysts and
designers is developing good quality systems within the specified time and
budget constraints.
Case Tools are the Following Types :-
1 . Analysis tool , 2 . Diagrammatic tools, 3 . Display and
Report generators, 4 .Code generators,
5 . Documentation generator, 6 . Testing
and Debugging tools.
Case tool can be used in
the need identification, System planning, Analysis Design and implementation
phases of SDLC.
Proper use of tools would
improved the effectiveness as well as the efficiency of the system development.
Advantage
:-
1 . CASE tool improved speed and reduce the time needed to
complete a particular software development task.
2 . Development of DFD , Gantt chart, PERT chart can be very
tedious if done manually. CASE tools take away most of such drudges.
3 . When procedures are coded by a CASE tools they give a
consistent look.
4 . In addition to the enforcement of consistence tools,
CASE tools can also ensure completeness.
5 . Use of CASE tools increases the likelihood of meeting
user requirements.
6 . One major advantage of CASE tools is that it facilitates
prototype.
Disadvantage
:-
1 . There is no standardization yet among the different CASE
tools available in the market.
2 . CASE tools generally used diagram to represent the
modeling and reporting of analysis and development work.
3 . Case tool have a limited scope.
4 . A bad analysts or designer can never become a good analysts or designer
by just using a sophisticated CASE tool .
